The “El Tempranillo” Trail

The “El Tempranillo” Trail sets out from Lucena, the heart of Córdoba’s Subbética region, and visits places directly linked to the life of José María “El Tempranillo”, as well as historic routes of Andalusian banditry.

• Lucena
  The starting point of the experience. This is where you will find the Horiana estate, the main base for welcoming guests and spending time together during the trail. Surrounded by nature, it is where some of the meals, rest breaks and evening gatherings take place.
• Jauja (Lucena)
  A hamlet belonging to Lucena and the birthplace of José María “El Tempranillo”. An interpretive visit to learn about his origins, the social context of the time and the beginnings of the legend.
• The natural setting of Córdoba’s Subbética region
  Horseback rides through olive groves, mountain ranges and country lanes, following old routes once used on horseback for travel, refuge and smuggling.
• Benamejí
  A town that is key to the bandit’s story. Here you will delve into the phenomenon of Romantic-era banditry and the figure of El Tempranillo as a popular myth.
• Historic routes between Córdoba and Málaga
  Old tracks used by muleteers, travellers and bandits, linking villages and traditional roadside inns (ventas).

The route may be adapted for each edition, always keeping Lucena and the Horiana estate at the heart of the experience.
